June – Fall, 1990
From Judge Wilk’s June 7, 1993 Report:
In June 1990, the parties became concerned with Satchel’s behavior and took him to see Dr. Coates, with whom he then began treatment. At Dr. Coates’ request, both parents participated in Satchel’s treatment. In the fall of 1990, the parties asked Dr. Coates to evaluate Dylan to determine if she needed therapy. During the course of the evaluation, Ms. Farrow expressed her concern to Dr. Coates that Mr. Allen’s behavior with Dylan was not appropriate. Dr. Coates observed: “I understood why she was worried, because it [Mr. Allen’s relationship with Dylan] was intense, … I did not see it as sexual, but I saw it as inappropriately intense because it excluded everybody else, and it placed a demand on a child for a kind of acknowledgment that I felt should not be placed on a child …*

This was untrue. A temporary arrangement enabled Mr. Allen to visit regularly with Dylan and Satchel but they were not permitted to visit at his residence. In addition, Ms. Farrow asked for his assurance that he would not seek custody of Moses, Dylan or Satchel.*

From Judge Wilk’s Report:

On the same day, Mr. Allen signed a second document, which he did not reveal to Ms. Farrow, in which he disavowed the waiver, claiming that it was a product of duress and coercion and stating that “I have no intention of abiding by it and have been advised that it will not hold up legally and that at worst I can revoke it unilaterally at will.*

Later in the custody trial Schultz will testify that she did not believe Dylan had been sexually abused.*

In her Vanity Fair article, Maureen Orth cites associates of Mia Farrow who claim that the letter was not written by Soon-Yi. Orth also cites Audrey Seiger (or Sieger*), a person she claims has a doctorate in learning and reading disabilities, who says that Soon-Yi was “a very typical L.D. [learning disability] kid.”
From Jezebel:

September 1992
Dylan Farrow is referred to the Child Sexual Abuse Clinic of Yale-New Haven Hospital by the Connecticut State Police. The team (Dr. Leventhal, a pediatrician; Dr. Julia Hamilton, Ph.D. in social work; and Jennifer Sawyer, master’s degree in social work) concludes the following:
In developing our opinion, we considered three hypotheses to explain Dylan’s statements. First, that Dylan’s statements were true and that Mr. Allen had sexually abused her; second, that Dylan’s statements were not true but were made up by an emotionally vulnerable child who was caught up in a disturbed family and who was responding to the stresses in the family; and third, that Dylan was coached or influenced by her mother, Ms. Farrow.
While we can conclude that Dylan was not sexually abused, we can not be definitive about whether the second formulation by itself or the third formulation by itself is true. We believe that it is more likely that a combination of these two formulations best explains Dylan’s allegations of sexual abuse. The major reasons for our opinion that Dylan was not sexually abused are the following:
(1) There were important inconsistencies in Dylan’s statements in the videotape and in her statements to us.
(2) She appeared to struggle with how to tell about the touching.
(3) She told the story in a manner that was overly thoughtful and controlling. There was no spontaneity in her statements, and a rehearsed quality was suggested in how she spoke.
(4) Her descriptions of the details surrounding the alleged events were unusual and were inconsistent.*

Monica Thompson, who had worked for Farrow for seven years, is subpoenaed to testify in a the Farrow/Allen custody battle. Thompson says, “Woody Allen was always the better parent and all the things Miss Farrow is saying about him are not true ….” Thompson additionally denies that Dylan was traumatized by the alleged molestation: “Dylan always loved him (Allen) dearly and misses him. She still loves him dearly.”*
February 2, 1993
Monica Thompson — nanny for seven years to Farrow’s and Allen’s children who resigned from the Farrow household on Jan. 25 after being subpoenaed — tells Allen’s lawyers in depositions that another baby-sitter and one of the couple’s other adopted children told her they had serious doubts about the molestation accusation.
[…] “[Kristie Groteke] told me that she felt guilty allowing Ms. Farrow to say those things about Mr. Allen. (Groteke) said the day Mr. Allen spent with the kids, she did not have Dylan out of her sight for longer than five minutes. She did not remember Dylan being without her underwear.”“Ms. Farrow set the stage to report the incident involving Dylan,” Thompson charged. “For several weeks, Ms. Farrow insisted that Mr. Allen not be left alone with Dylan and wanted me to be with them at all times.”
The nanny said that on several occasions the actress “asked me if I would be ‘on her side.’ Ms. Farrow has tried to get me to say that I would support her with these accusations.”
[…] “Since January, Ms. Farrow has suffered dramatic mood swings and had screaming fits about Mr. Allen,” the nanny said in an affidavit taken last August. “These fits of rage were often conducted in front of the children where she would say mean and nasty things about Mr. Allen. All of the pictures of Mr. Allen in their home were destroyed.”*
March 30, 1993
A clinical psychologist [Coates] testified yesterday that she warned Woody Allen that she feared for his safety because of threats made by Mia Farrow. The threats were made in the months after Ms. Farrow learned that Mr. Allen was having an affair with her adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn, the psychologist testified.*

Leventhal, who interviewed Dylan/Malone nine times, said that one reason he doubted her story was that she changed important points from one interview to another, like whether Mr. Allen touched her vagina. Another reason, he said, was that the child’s accounts had “a rehearsed quality.” At one point, he said she told him, “I like to cheat on my stories.”*
April 3, 1993

Kristi Groteke says that Dylan and Allen disappeared for 20 minutes at one point and, when they returned, Dylan was missing her underwear. Sophie Berge, a French Teacher for Dylan says she fetched the panties for and gave them to Groteke.* [In her book, Groteke says she lost track of Dylan and Allen for 10–20 minutes.]
April 21, 1993
Kathryn Prescott, Allen’s therapist of 20 years, states publicly that Allen’s profile “is definitely not that of a sexual offender.”*
Sept. 24, 1993
Connecticut State’s Attorney Frank Maco releases a statement in which he says that, although he finds probable cause to issue an arrest warrant for Allen, he will not do so in order to spare Dylan further emotional turmoil. He bases this decision largely on the statement of Judge Wilk that Allen behaved “grossly inappropriately” toward Dylan.* Wilk’s full statement is as follows: “The credible testimony of Ms. Farrow, Dr. Coates, Dr. Leventhal and Mr. Allen does, however, prove that Mr. Allen’s behavior toward Dylan was grossly inappropriate and that measures must be taken to protect her.” However, this statement directly contradicts the testimony of three out of four of the people he lists.*

The statewide grievance committee dismissed Allen’s complaint that State’s Attorney Frank Maco violated his professional code of conduct by talking about Allen to reporters and then faxing his comments to New York judges hearing child custody matters between Allen and actress Mia Farrow.
[…] The reviewing panel chastised Maco for announcing at the September 1993 conference that he would not prosecute Allen on sex abuse charges, then going on to say he had enough evidence to arrest Allen if he had chosen to prosecute. The panel ruled Maco’s statements “clearly allowed reasonable people to conclude that [Maco] was saying that [Allen] was factually guilty…. We are highly critical of [Maco’s] lack of sensitivity, in this case, to the concept of the presumption of innocence.”*
In his defense, Maco testified that he felt compelled to explain his decision not to prosecute. He was concerned, he said during the hearings, that his constituents would think he was giving preferential treatment to Allen because of his celebrity status, or wouldn’t vigorously prosecute allegations of sexual abuse.*
