DÉRAILLEUR

crank and dérailleur

dérailleur

This figure is from Schwalbe Tires. I arrive at a number (2234) close to 2220 when I take the diameter measurement I got (28″) when I measured one edge of the tire to the other (the tire was mounted and the inner tube inflated to about 70 psi) and plugged this diameter measurement into the standard circumference formula π x diameter.
The word "derailleur" (with no acute accent over the first "e") seems to be more prevalent than its parent, "dérailleur."

Hear me pronounce "derailleur."

Hear me pronounce "dérailleur."

Note: I based the English pronunciation on the audio pronunciation from Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary v. 2.5. I based the french pronunciation on the AT&T Labs Text-to-Speech: Demo pronunciation.

  1. I ride my Avenue to work during the ridable months here in Southeastern Idaho and have put 6000+ miles on it. My last repairs at the bike shop the guy took off the front plastic sprocket protector that kept my pants from getting greasy and/or caught in the front sprocket. Do you have a parts list for my bike so I can buy a new one? My serial # is SNIDC08A10268 and the bike shop that did the work says they can’t get me one!!?

    1. Hi, Alan.

I’d love to be able to help, but I’ve never encountered such a list. Maybe you could try phoning Schwinn directly. Hopefully, you can leave another comment if you’re successful.

  2. Do you know what size spoke the rims on this bike needs? I find they break easy and am tired of paying $16 to replace them at the bike shop.
